Review: Chris Forrest In ‘Who’s Your Daddy?’

Chris Forrest has been slowly building a name for himself over the past few years and is one of the most sought after comedians in the country at the moment. His fame, however, catapulted after appearing in and winning Celebrity Masterchef SA a few weeks ago and, as luck would have it, his brand new comedy show ‘Who’s Your Daddy?’ premiered in Jozi last night.

The local comedy scene sees an influx of jokes based on religion and politics and, to be fair, it’s actually becoming a bit boring now. We know Jews are supposedly stingy and that Muslims are all seen as dangerous terrorists and no, Zuma won’t pay back the money. It’s enough. That’s why, it was so refreshing to see Chris bring his own life into his new show. See, Chris is a new father and this journey of his saw him dealing with many new and scary things. Therefore, as a comedian does, he managed to find the funny in almost every situation. In ‘Who’s Your Daddy?’, Chris sheds his insights on this scary chapter in a person’s life and shows his audience that even though it’s a scary and beautiful thing, you will be able to laugh your way through it all.

Chris takes us through each phase of his journey starting with the ‘trying’ to the first trimester, second trimester, finding out it’s a girl, third trimester, the birth and the few months after the child is born which he calls the ‘fourth trimester’.

Each of the periods have their ups and downs and Chris honestly reveals the struggles, beautiful moments and shocks he encountered in each of the phases. What I loved about the show is that Chris was completely honest. He calls bullshit on things like ‘it doesn’t matter what sex the baby is, as long as it has ten fingers and ten toes I’m happy’. Yes, he did feel a bit upset when he found out he was having a girl and not a boy. That’s what makes this show so great.

Chris kept the show really interactive as well, interacting with two pregnant couples throughout the show giving them tips he wished he knew when he was back in their position. Another cool aspect of the show is that Chris teamed up with Huggies – and it makes perfect sense. The two couples got a beautiful hamper from the brand and every person who attends the show leaves with a Huggies goodie bag as well. Chris has also revealed that if you bring a toy to donate on the night, he will shed R10 off your ticket price and make sure those toys go to a good home. What a champ!

The show was really refreshing and I’m glad Chris put this together. Sure, it’s a comedy show and you will be laughing throughout but who knows, you might also leave with some valuable insight into pregnancy and the tons of surprises that come with it.

‘Who’s Your Daddy?’ is playing at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square at Sandton City until the 31st of May. Tickets are available at www.strictlytickets.co.za at a cost of R130 per person.
