The 2026 South African Music Awards are getting a hosting duo with serious star power. South African hip-hop heavyweight Cassper Nyovest and 5FM broadcaster Zanele Potelwa will take the stage as hosts of the 32nd annual SAMAs, bringing together two of Mzansi’s most recognisable voices for the ceremony’s ‘Homecoming Edition’.
“I’m very excited to be going home and reuniting with the SAMAs in such an incredible way,” Cassper says. “It’s an honour to follow in the footsteps of legends like HHP and Kabelo Mabalane (Bouga Luv), who have also hosted the SAMAs. I’ve got so much to say about it, but if I had to put it in a nutshell, I’m simply excited and deeply honoured. I’m also really looking forward to working with Zanele Potelwa. I look forward to learning from her while also bringing my own energy and vibe to the stage. Together, I think we’re going to create the kind of hosting experience people will remember for years to come.”
For Zanele, the announcement represents a major career milestone and the opportunity to take on one of the biggest stages in South African entertainment alongside an artist she describes as an icon. “This feels UNBELIEVABLE!!! All Glory to Jesus Christ! My heart is pumping custard because this is a dream come true,” she says. “What a surreal moment. This is a milestone I am so excited for and to be able to share it with an icon: Cassper Nyovest. What an honour! I can’t wait to be of service to the country and deliver an unforgettably BEAUTIFUL show.”
She adds: “It’s going to be one for the history books in the BEST way possible and I am so excited to be the nation’s Host and the People’s Champion on that stage, staying true to the epitome of excellence – ‘NO DNA, JUST RSA’.”
The pairing brings together two very different but complementary sides of South African pop culture. Cassper is one of the country’s most influential hip-hop artists, entrepreneurs and cultural figures, with a career spanning multiple platinum albums, major awards and some of the biggest live shows in South African music history. His ‘Fill Up’ concerts, including Fill Up The Dome, Fill Up Orlando Stadium and Fill Up Royal Bafokeng, have become defining moments in the country’s live music landscape.
The 2026 SAMAs will mark Cassper’s first time hosting the ceremony, adding another milestone to a career that has already seen him become one of the most recognisable figures in African entertainment.
At 32, Zanele has established herself as one of South Africa’s leading young broadcasters. The 5FM ‘5 Drive’ host has also appeared on shows including ‘Expresso’, ‘Selimathunzi’ and ‘Tropika Island of Treasure’, while her broadcasting credits include major SABC Sport events such as the Netball World Cup. An SA Radio Award winner and Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans honouree, Zanele has built a reputation as an energetic presenter and MC, earning her the nickname ‘The People’s Champion’.
SAMA32 spokesperson Unati Gwua says the pair are a fitting choice for this year’s theme. “Cassper Nyovest is the best person to usher in the Homecoming Edition, as a bona fide of the North West, while Zanele equally embodies the theme ‘The Future Sounds Like Now Now’,” Gwua says.
The 32nd Annual South African Music Awards ‘Homecoming Edition’ will take place on Aug. 15, 2026, at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West Province, where Cassper and Zanele will lead a celebration of the artists, songs and stories shaping South African music.
With the country’s hip-hop royalty and one of its most exciting young broadcasters at the helm, SAMA32 is already shaping up to be a night worth watching.
