In an industry that’s constantly evolving, Faith Makubung, better known as DJ Fae Fae, isn’t just keeping up, she’s setting the pace.
The multi-hyphenate DJ, radio host, MC and content producer is stepping confidently into the new radio year with a clear vision: expand her brand, sharpen her skill set, and create more space for women in music. At the centre of that mission is her ongoing work on All Girls On Deck (AGOD), her weekly show on YFM, airing Saturdays from 6PM to 8PM.
More than just a mix show, All Girls On Deck has become a platform with purpose — spotlighting female DJs, amplifying their sound, and helping shift long-standing narratives within the industry. Now, Fae Fae is looking to take that energy beyond the airwaves. A live All Girls On Deck experience is currently in the works, aimed at bringing that same community-driven spirit to physical stages.
But for Fae Fae, growth isn’t just about visibility — it’s about evolution. Currently studying Music Production at Boston Media House, she’s intentionally expanding her creative toolkit, with plans to start producing her own music. It’s a strategic next step for an artist who understands the value of ownership and versatility in today’s music landscape.
But, she’s not stopping there. Outside of music, Fae Fae is already laying the groundwork for a future business venture, taking wig-making classes as she explores launching her own hair brand. It’s a move that speaks to a broader entrepreneurial mindset — one that blends creativity with long-term vision.
Still, music remains the heartbeat of it all. With a packed year ahead, Fae Fae is gearing up for a series of key moments: a birthday celebration event, a winter tour, special programming around Women’s Month, and a summer run that could see her taking her sound — and her message — even further afield. Through it all, her goal remains consistent: unlocking opportunities for female DJs across Africa and pushing their talent onto bigger stages.
“This year already feels exciting,” she says. “I am ready to take my career, brand and other parts of my life to greater heights. I have come a long way and have learned so much.”
It’s that mix of confidence and clarity that defines her next chapter. “I plan on levelling up my skill set — be it going back to school, starting a business or taking All Girls On Deck on tour,” she adds. “I want the world to know that yes, we look good, but we really also do know how to actually DJ.”
At a time when conversations around representation in music are louder than ever, DJ Fae Fae is doing more than talking — she’s building infrastructure, creating platforms, and growing a community. “We are growing a community of female DJs, not only in South Africa, but throughout Africa and ultimately the rest of the world,” she says. “It’s time to embrace female DJs and recognise our talent altogether because we are here to stay.”
