South African producer and DJ Yumbs is stepping into a new season of sound with his deeply personal new EP, ‘Imbewu (The Seed)’ — a project that captures growth, gratitude, and the evolution of one of Amapiano’s most refined architects.
Translating to “The Seed” in isiZulu, Imbewu represents more than a title, it’s a metaphor for Yumbs’ own journey. “This project is about nurturing what you believe in,” he shares. “It’s about patience, intention, and trusting the process as you grow into who you’re meant to be.”
Rooted in the soulful pulse of “private school” Amapiano, Imbewu blooms with warmth and depth, offering listeners a reflective, emotionally charged take on the genre’s global rise. Each track unfolds like a chapter of self-discovery — rich with groove, grace, and a touch of spiritual introspection.
The ten-track collection boasts a star-studded roster of collaborators, including Kailey Botman and Zwayetoven, who reunite with Yumbs after their breakout success on ‘Izimangaliso.’ The chemistry between them feels effortless, a testament to shared creative vision and trust. Also featured are powerhouse vocalist Nkosazana Daughter, whose ethereal tone adds weight to the project’s emotional core, and producer Stixx, whose soulful precision perfectly complements Yumbs’ elegant production.
One of the project’s standout tracks, ‘You Try’ featuring Simmy, has already gone viral — amassing more than 60,000 TikTok creations in a single week and climbing national radio charts across South Africa. A visualiser for the track is set to drop soon, offering fans a glimpse into the heart of one of the year’s most captivating Amapiano moments.
Expanding on the EP’s message, Yumbs has also released a short documentary filmed in his childhood home in Kagiso, connecting his roots to his rise. The film reveals the inspiration behind Imbewu — a reminder that every towering tree begins as a seed, nurtured by faith, resilience, and community.
With ‘Imbewu’, Yumbs reaffirms his place at the forefront of Amapiano’s evolution. It’s not just an EP — it’s a feel-good, soul-deep reflection of growth, purpose, and the creative power of staying true to your roots.
