You may remember Troye Sivan from the uber popular Spud films or as the popular Australian YouTube star but now, the star is trying his hand at music and he has just dropped his second EP ‘Wild’ and has released the title single as the lead single off the project. The EP has already received praise from the likes of Sam Smith and Taylor Swift.
Troye is busy finding a sound that works for him and he seems to shine where electronic and indie elements meet his deep, sultry vocals and ‘Wild’ is a perfect example of this. The track has a catchy chorus that reminds me a lot of J.U.S.T.I.C.E’s ‘Dance’ and it’s interesting how he has chosen a dark eerie sound for a track about love. It’s interesting to note that Troye, who came out as gay back in 2013, revealed that “the most important thing to me at this point in my career is being able to be honest in my song-writing — and these songs are about boys.”
The song is a breath of fresh air. I am glad Troye didn’t go the predictable route with regards to his music and has opted to write songs that are personal and that tell his story rather than release hits. I see a big future for the kid.
