Mzansi’s queen of the dancefloor is back with brand-new music – and it’s a surprising cover of an iconic single. Tamara Dey has released ‘Promises’, a cover of the popular Brenda Fassie single in is what a welcomed surprise from the star.
Tamara and her co-producers, Gary Van Riet and RJ Benjamin paid much reverence and respect to this self-penned Brenda Fassie classic along their journey to bring to life Tamara’s modern, house-infused, afro disco interpretation of this iconic song.
RJ Benjamin’s soaring strings, guitarist Zam Boney’s infectious African guitar licks, drummer Isaac Klawansky’s addictive percussion and award winning young jazz saxophonist Godfrey Mntambo’s soulful sax hooks, all helped elevate the song to new heights.
Tamara is currently working with her team to produce a music video as well as a nationwide ‘Promises tour’ to uplift all who hear and see her.
The star tells us that she is extremely proud and excited to have the opportunity to honour one of her all-time favourite artists in this way while reintroducing a timeless classic to a new generation.
