We find out exactly where the minions were before they served the evil Gru!
Starring: Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Saunders
Plot: The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters-from T. rex to Napoleon-the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he-alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob-ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.
Remarks: Who doesn’t love the minions? Myself, and the rest of the world, fell in love with these critters when Despicable Me released back in 2010. This film takes us back to the beginning and we learn the history of the minions and the rulers they served. I think the story was rather cute. I liked the fact that Kevin, Bob and Stuart searched for their new leader at VillianCon and how they eventually came about serving Scarlet Overkill. Despite the fact that they stole the show in the first two Despicable Me films, I must be honest and say that as cute as they are, the minions aren’t able to hold a film of their own. I needed more constantly and just felt like there was so much lacking in this film. Now, this is not to say that the film is bad. In fact, I found myself laughing out loud on many occasions but it didn’t leave me with the same feeling I had after watching the first two films. The kids, however, love it. The minions are one of the best animated characters in the past 10 years and while the film isn’t as good as the original concept, I can’t wait to go watch it again!
