South African dance music nostalgia is getting a major moment this November, with Liquideep, Mdu and legendary producer/DJ duo Brothers of Peace announced as the first wave of artists set to perform at Oskido’s Big Day Out in Johannesburg.
The festival, which returns to Huddle Park in Linksfield on Saturday, Nov. 28, is bringing together some of the artists whose music became the soundtrack to entire generations, from packed dance floors and township street parties to family braais, road trips and late-night club sessions.
Leading the Phase One lineup are Liquideep, Mdu and Brothers of Peace, the latter comprising Bruce ‘Dope’ Sebitlo and festival founder Oskido. Together, the artists represent a significant chapter in South Africa’s dance music story, with their influence stretching across house, kwaito and the broader evolution of the country’s club culture.
For fans who grew up with these sounds, the announcement is an invitation to revisit the songs that shaped their formative years. The 2026 edition is set to be the festival’s biggest yet, expanding to two stages and bringing together an even wider mix of sounds. While the first announcement leans heavily into nostalgia, the festival will also spotlight the artists shaping South African music’s next chapter, spanning house, kwaito, amapiano and hip-hop.
The Phase One lineup promises an emotional trip through decades of South African music, from Liquideep’s soulful sound and Brothers of Peace’s unmistakable grooves to Mdu’s infectious energy.
