Drake
Views (Universal Music)

Breakdown: It’s been one of the most anticipated albums of the year and Drake finally dropped his fourth studio album ‘Views’ as a surprise release at the end of April. The album includes the smash hit singles Hotline Bling and One Dance which is taking local radio by storm!

How Many Good Tracks: 15 of the 20.

What I Liked: This is exactly the album we were hoping for to hear from Drake. This is, first and foremost, a rap album – and Drake delivers some of the best lyrics of his career on this album. The rapper speaks about many important topics and the writing is fantastic. Drake is very comfortable with the sound he has created and again blends strong hip-hop verses and catchy hooks to create tracks that cross-over into both pop and urban markets. The production on the album is fire and all these elements together really make for a strong album.

What I Didn’t Like: The album is jam-packed with 20 songs and although this means value for money for the consumer, the quality of the album is hampered. There are a few songs on the record that sound like fillers and I would have preferred if we had fewer, stronger songs than a larger collection with these average additions. I would have also liked to hear something a little different from the rapper. The album is exactly what we have heard from him before and although there is clear growth on the record, I would have liked to see Drake experiment a little more.

Best Track: One Dance (Feat. Wizkid & Kyla)

Rating: 4/5
