Madonna is ready to take fans back to the dance floor. The Queen of Pop announced today that her highly anticipated new album, Confessions II, will arrive on July 3 via Warner Records. The project serves as a direct spiritual and sonic successor to her iconic 2005 dance opus Confessions on a Dance Floor.
Ahead of the lead single, Madonna has shared a hypnotic, trancelike visual teaser that offers the first taste of the album’s sound. In a statement accompanying the announcement, Madonna reflected on the ethos behind the new record, quoting lyrics from the track “One Step Away”: “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”
She continues saying “When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto: We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years — they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect.”
Confessions II is expected to continue the high-energy, club-centric sound that defined its predecessor, while exploring themes of spirituality, liberation, and the transcendent power of dance. Stuart Price, who co-produced the original Confessions on a Dance Floor, returns as a key collaborator.
Madonna continued building hype for the upcoming record by joining Sabrina Carpenter on stage at Coachella to perform ‘Like A Prayer’, ‘Vogue’ and a brand-new song that is expected to appear on the new album.
The announcement marks another major chapter in Madonna’s legendary career, following her continued influence on pop, dance, and queer culture more than four decades after her debut.
