It was a race to the finish line as Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’ remix with Nicki Minaj was victorious over Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Savage’ remix with Beyoncé as the song tops the Billboard Hot 100 giving both acts their first number one on the chart.
However, although their climb to the top was controversial in that the rappers half a dozen versions of the same song as well as an official dance video for the song and a live clip
— all of which count to the song’s final chart tally. However, with ‘Say So’ scoring a higher number of airplay on American radio, the song eventually claimed the top spot – making history in the process.
The track is Nicki’s 109th entry on the Hot 100 making the rapper the artist with the longest wait for a number one record. Doja, in comparison, topped the chart with her third appearance on the chart.
This is also the first time two female rappers hit the top spot and the first time two female-led rap songs took up the top two spots on the chart.
