I don’t know about you guys but I am counting down the days until The Voice South Africa premieres on M-Net on the 31st of January. The show starts pre-recording next week so M-Net has finally revealed that Lungile Radu and Stacey Norman will serve as the hosts for this highly anticipated new show.
Lungile has had an amazing career in television over the past few years and hosting The Voice SA isn’t his first major role. The star was a Channel O VJ for over eight years and hosted both seasons of Big Brother Mzansi, Kasi 101, Fear Factor SA and Goal Diggerz. Stacey, on the other hand, is one of my favourite presenters on 94.7 Highveld Stereo and holds down the 09:00 to 12:00 weekdays slot. While Lungile will serve as the show’s official host, Stacey will be holding down the fort as The Voice SA’s very own V-Reporter where she will engage with viewers and the talent in the show, as the fans at home live tweet their comments and messages of support in real-time during the live shows.
“Lungile’s extensive experience in front of the camera will stand him in good stead in this demanding role,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “On top of handling the pressures of a live reality show, he will manage all the emotions in the wings – from buoying contestants’ nervous families and friends to giving the singers much-needed support in the later rounds of the show. We all know that he is a slick, highly professional host, but The Voice SA will also highlight his warm and caring personality.”
Lani also says that “Stacey is perfect for this role. She is energetic, funky and smart and understands the social media realm. She’s definitely going to create a big buzz and we’re delighted that she will be making her television debut on M-Net.” Stacey is, naturally, excited. “As a huge fan of The Voice, to now be part of it – as it launches in SA for the first time – is mind blowing. This is honestly the biggest thing that has ever happened to me and I can’t wait to get started,” the radio DJ said.
Since its 2010 debut in the Netherlands as The Voice of Holland, this thrilling singing competition has taken the world by storm. It has been a smash hit in the US, Australia and UK, where the likes of Adam Levine, Blake Sheldon, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Pharrell Williams, Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora, Kylie Minogue, Joel Madden and Ricky Martin have occupied the show’s iconic red chairs to choose and then coach a variety of highly talented singers. Joining a long list of countries – from Afghanistan, Brazil and China to Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam – South Africa is now the 60th country in the world to add a local flavour to The Voice. The South African panel of coaches consists of some of the country’s most successful recording artists, namely Lira, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Kahn Morbee and Karen Zoid.
