The TV game, globally, is changing day by day and is becoming full of new, fresh ideas. M-Net, the channel famous for Survivor, Masterchef and Idols, has come to the party early and has jumped on one of the most exciting new big format shows out there – Power Couple SA – making them the first English market to premiere the show that has already been doing it’s rounds in Israel and Portugal.
“Power Couple is a revolutionary concept that combines all the elements needed for compelling television,” says Victor Eckard, M-Net’s Director for M-Net 101 and M-Net Edge. “There will be romance, drama, action, adventure and loads of suspense in this unique feel-good series with traces of Fear Factor, Big Brother and game show-type challenges which could yield massive cash rewards for the contestants. It’s all very exciting and we’re thrilled to lead the international pack again by bringing our viewers a fresh format that we believe will soon take the world by storm.”
Power Couple will test the relationship of eight couples, who will move into a luxurious villa somewhere in Cape Town. These couples will compete at thrilling, nerve-wracking challenges, during which they have to illustrate how much they know, trust or love their partners. Based on the outcome of these tasks, two couples will be up for elimination each week and the others will decide whom they would like to keep in the game.
These tough, spectacular challenges – which will sometimes include high-adrenaline action adventures – will allow the couples to accumulate thousands of Rands by betting on whether their loved one will be able to complete a task, without knowing how much their partner has invested in their ability to succeed. If they get it right, the money will be added to their kitty – but if the partner fails, the money will be subtracted from the amount they carry through to the end of the show.
“It could be far more than a Million Rand,” says Eckard. “But also take note, becoming SA’s first Power Couple will be about more than being brave and courageous in the challenges. You’ll have to use your EQ and IQ to ensure that the other couples don’t get rid of you, while strategising to stay ahead of the others at all times.”
Want to be part of this exciting new concept? M-Net will be holding auditions for the show next month so get your partner ready! The audition dates and venues are as follows:
14 February – The Bay Hotel, Camps Bay, Cape Town
18 February – Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban
28 February – Indaba Hotel, Johannesburg
Power Couple will be filmed in Cape Town in March and will be screened on M-Net from August 2015.
