Local electronic act GOODLUCK have been known to the Mzansi’s partystarters. However, the recent lockdown has forced them to take a step back and think about things a little differently. It was during this time that they decided to rerecord some of their biggest hits with an acoustic spin and now, their ‘Up Close’ project is officially here.
The album was preceded by singles ‘Back in the Day We Used to Run,’ ‘Waiting For Summer,’ and ‘Hop On Hop Off Kind Of Lover’ and will be supported with the latest single ‘Together Like Rum And Cola’.
“Making this record was a true test of my vocal abilities!” says the group’s lead singer Jules Harding. “When your voice is exposed like that there is nowhere to hide. I really enjoyed pushing my limiting beliefs and being vulnerable to go a little deeper with this album… I think you will find that the music is some of the best music we have ever produced!”
Producer Ben Peters adds that “I was really pushed outside of my comfort zone with this album, but working with these incredible musicians (who we really do need to be supporting over this time), made my job a thousand times easier.”
As the group release ‘Together Like Rum And Cola,’ GOODLUCK reminisce on the creation process which, in turn, inspired the remainer of the album. Tapping musicians like Shen Winburg, Lumanyano Unity Mzi, Nick Williams, Ross McDonald, Lee Thomson & Ryan McArthur, the group knew they had something special with this project.
On the fourth and lead single off the project, Jules says “I love how music can have different shades!” She adds “We have a song that was originally written as an uptempo pop song, then we strip it back to a piano and vocal and we have a truly emotional and fragile love song. It has been so important to me to show a more vulnerable side of who we are and to go a little deeper with this album. I have fallen in love with these songs all over again!”
