Kimosabe Named South Africa’s Deezer Next Artist For 2018

Every year, music streaming service Deezer pick a few artists they pick to give their full support for a 12-month period. Artists involved will receive profile development, playlisting support and take part in creative artist marketing campaigns. This is the second year of this exciting initiative and alongside Zak Abel and Jorja Smith who have been announced as the global priority artists for 2018, the South African division has chosen Kimosabe as the standout act from Africa.

The Xhosa speaking alternative R&B star made a name for himself as major feature performer before being signed to David Gresham Records in 2017. Kimosabe will be releasing his debut album in 2018 and is tipped to be one of the major breakthrough acts from Africa this year.

“I love consuming music just as much as I love making it, so when I was selected for Deezer Next, I was excited and in disbelief,” the star says. “As musicians, I believe that our greatest satisfaction comes from having an audience for our art, no matter how small that audience is in the beginning. With Deezer Next, the audience becomes bigger as the world gets smaller. I’m truly honored that I have been selected for such a great platform to showcase my craft to the world, alongside amazing artists from around the world. And it just hit me now – this is happening!”

The folks at Deezer have been keeping a close eye on the star since his emergence onto the music scene and they’re excited to see him develop over the next year. Sotiris Moldovanos, Deezer Music Editor for Africa comments: “Kimosabe is a dynamic, multi-talented, artist whose music, rich in soulful melodies, captures a sincere self-expression, and together with his vibrant personality made him an obvious choice for Deezer Next SA”

Kimosabe joins an exciting list of artists from around the world who will be highlighted by the steaming service in their area such as PLK (France), Moha La Squale (France), Jonas Esticado (Brazil), Nico Santos (Germany), Young T & Bugsey (UK) and Mala Rodrígues (Spain).

“Talent can come from anywhere, and with Deezer Next 2018 we are excited to find and support emerging artists from as far afield as Singapore to Brazil. People’s tastes are becoming wider and more diverse. Streaming is now the primary way that people are discovering new music and with Deezer Next we can use that potential to give exposure to these developing artists and help build their careers,” Sulinna Ong, Deezer Global Vice President – Artist Marketing.

Kimosabe promises an exciting year ahead and we’re excited to see what he has up his sleeve.
