Earlier this year, Justin Bieber announced that he will be postponing several dates on his Justice World Tour as a result of his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a complication of shingles. The star recently returned to the stage performing at Brazil’s Rock In Rio and six shows in Europe. However, just weeks before his scheduled performances in South Africa, Justin has announced that he still does not feel well enough to continue with his world tour and has cancelled.
In a statement on his social media pages, Justin says that his return to the stage had been premature. “This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio, and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil. After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me, and I realised that I need to make my health the priority right now,” the star said.
“So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being,” Justin adds. “I’m going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better. I’ve been so proud to bring this show and our message of justice to the world.”
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that can inflame and paralyse the facial nerve, and cause a painful rash around the ear or mouth. In addition to facial paralysis, it can cause hearing loss.
Local promoter Big Concerts has said that they will communicate in due time if the star’s South African shows will be impacted by this decision. “We all wish Justin a speedy recovery and admire his decision to put his health first,” Big Concerts said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see him back on the road and we’re standing by for further updates which we will share with you as the South Africa dates approach. If the South African leg of the tour gets cancelled, all ticket holders will receive a full refund.”
