Earlier this year, Justin Bieber announced that he will be postponing several dates on his Justice World Tour as a result of his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a complication of shingles. The star recently returned to the stage performing at Brazil’s Rock In Rio and six shows in Europe. However, just weeks before his scheduled performances in South Africa, Justin has announced that he still does not feel well enough to continue with his world tour and has cancelled.
In a statement on his social media pages, Justin says that his return to the stage had been premature. “This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio, and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil. After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me, and I realised that I need to make my health the priority right now,” the star said.
“So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being,” Justin adds. “I’m going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better. I’ve been so proud to bring this show and our message of justice to the world.”
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that can inflame and paralyse the facial nerve, and cause a painful rash around the ear or mouth. In addition to facial paralysis, it can cause hearing loss.
Now, after uncertainly around his South African tour dates, local promoter Big Concerts has confirmed that the South African Justice World Tour dates have officially been cancelled.
“Big Concerts and AEG Presents regret to confirm that Justin Bieber’s Justice World Tour South African dates have been cancelled,” the promoter said in a statement.
“All fans that purchased tickets from Ticketmaster will receive a full refund and will be contacted by Ticketmaster directly. Fans do not need to take any action. Please keep an eye on your inbox for further information. We wish Justin a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in South Africa in the future.”
