The Parklife Festival is always one of my favourite festivals of the year. It’s a time where good music and good food come together taking its goers on both a musical and culinary journey. This year, however, the organizers have a special surprise for the Johannesburg show – UK songstress Jasmine Thompson is headlining!
Naturally, there will be a fantastic local line-up including Jeremy Loops, GoodLuck, Desmond & The Tutus, Al Bairre, Majozi, Monark, Mi Casa, Just Jinjer, Josh Wantie, Tresor, Kyle Deutsch & Shekhinah, Austin Cassim, Mac G (947), Pop Art Live, Vin Deysel (947) and Kyle Watson. Every year, however, the organizers scour the world for some international acts and Jasmine Thompson and Austria’s James Hersey will be performing at the show as well.
I’ve been a huge fan of Jasmine Thompson for a few years now and she has recently come to prominence thanks to current smash hit ‘Fast Car’ – a cover of the Tracy Chapman hit. She is also well-known for featuring on the Robin Schulz hit ‘Sun Goes Down’ and ‘Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better)’ with Felix Jaehn. Oh, and did I mention she is only 15? James Hersey will be bringing his deep house sounds to the festival as well.
According to the press release “Parklife will once again host artists from a variety of genres across three different stages, including the Electronic Music Stage, and as important as the music is so is the food. The Food Village will exceed its great reputation for bringing guests innovative, delicious offerings across a range of culinary styles from some of the most exciting foodies in the country.”
