Emeli Sandé – Long Live The Angels

Emeli Sandé easily has one of the strongest vocals in the world. The Scottish star released her debut album ‘Our Vision Of Events’ back in 2012 and now, the star is back with her highly-anticipated sophomore album ‘Long Live The Angels’. The record was preceded by the smash hits ‘Hurts’ and ‘Breathing Underwater’ which ultimately helped her win the best British Female British Solo Artist award at this year’s BRIT Awards.

Emeli has a phenomenal, massive voice and isn’t shy to put it on full display. You can expect the star to belt out the choruses on almost every song, however, the singer shines on the subtle, gentler moments on the album as well. The vocal control she showcases is inspiring and, honestly, it’s not something many artists are able to do.

The singer has spent a lot of time on the album and got it right. While staying true to herself and the music she wants to create, Emeli still manages to show off the different layers of her talent. Emeli remains constant in delivering an honest album mostly which reflects her recent divorce. The singer used the album creation process as a sort of therapy and the material which she has created is mind-blowing.

‘Long Live The Angels’ is undeniably a fantastic album but I can’t help but feel Emile played it too safe this time around. Sonically, it’s almost an identical album to her 2012 debut and the singer doesn’t show an interest in updating and upgrading her sound. I find it hard to believe that the singer is still the same person as she was four years ago.

However, Emeli is back with 15 fantastic new songs. The album reminds me how much I’ve missed her and I’m really glad she’s back.
