Afrikaans pop stars, ADAM, dropped their highly-anticipated new studio album ‘Bewe’ today. The album shot to number three on the South African iTunes chart and to celebrate, the group dropped their hilarious video for the project’s lead single ‘Sê My’.
‘Sê My’ sees the group throw away the rule book and they allowed themselves to be silly on both the song and the video. The track, written by Reynardt Hugo, Hugo Ludik and Vaughan Gardiner, is the group’s first tongue-in-cheek single and it’s great to see the group not taking themselves too seriously. Vocally, besides way too much autotune, the group continues to deliver solid vocal performances and is bound to be a hit at the group’s upcoming shows around the country. “The single is tongue-in-cheek and fun to perform. It is the first time that we have a song that is both playful and humorous and we are very excited about it,” shares Hugo.
In support of the single, the group also dropped a video for the track which was inspired by Hugo’s own failed attempts to meet girls at a bar. The video was shot at Presleys in Pretoria and features the three singers dressed up in drag – and it’s hilarious!
On the video, the group’s Kyle Grant reveals that “The song itself inspired the idea for the music video. It is a spoof about those guys and girls in night clubs who are often trying too hard to be hot. This is definitely something everyone will be able to relate to.” He adds that “Although it took us a long time to get into character for each role, we had so much fun on the day. All of us portray two characters – a trashy guy and the girl he flirts with. Hugo’s male character is a typical macho man and the girl is very desperate. Reynardt’s male character is a bit weird, while the female he plays is quite the lady. I play the most zef bloke you can imagine and my lady character is feisty and not easily impressed.”
The song is available on the song’s just-released new album ‘Bewe’. Support local music and buy or stream the album today.
