The response to Jamie-Lee Sexton’s highly-anticipated new single ‘We Need To Talk’ has been exceptional since its release two weeks ago. The new single from her upcoming EP ‘Medicine Woman’ has proven to be a hit with fans around the globe and, to celebrate, Jamie-Lee has premiered the official music video for the track.
The single, thanks to it being inspired by a conversation between two characters expressing their deepest feelings, needs, fears and desires, has proven to be a piece of work that has connected with audiences and Jamie-Lee wanted to bring the authenticity and vulnerability of the track through in the music video.
In the beautifully shot clip, directed by Studio Chapters, objects like the house and car used in the video all touch on the idea of seeing part of one’s past in the future. Storywise, the characters in the video each provide a representation of some iconic ‘we need to talk’ moments – including scenarios with one’s partner, mother and even oneself.
“Driving around in the car is a time I keep for myself to reflect and go over my thoughts. I do this daily, when driving to meetings, studio etc, I sing out loud, think out loud and use this time to test all my musical and everyday ideas,” Jamie-Lee explains. “It’s the time I get to spend with me. I wanted to add this visual representation into the video because I know plenty of people out there can relate.”
Jamie-Lee adds “After watching the music video, I hope viewers feel liberated and free after reminiscing on difficult conversations they might have had in the past. The song, and what we did with the music video, is a celebration and expression of empowerment and a metaphor for moving forward in life.”
