British boyband The Vamps are at it again! The group recently released their second studio album Wake Up and have chosen I Found A Girl featuring OMI as the next official single off the project. The track, which was sent to radio only a few short weeks ago has already made a huge impact and is scheduled to be another hit for the boys.
The song has an early 2000s punk-rock feel which bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan used to do so well. Much like many love songs, the band sing about a girl who has caught their eye. However, said girl isn’t interested in them because “she’s not into guys.” Naturally, this has caused a lot of controversy but the band is totally behind their decision to release this song as a single and reveal that more people should be singing about gay and lesbian love affairs in popular music. “It’s a concept that happened to one of us but we embellished it and exaggerated it in the song. It was never a relationship where she went off with anyone or anything,” James McVey of the band shared. “One of us started liking someone and then she said, ‘No, I like girls’. It wasn’t great. Friend-zoned to the max. It’s just a funny thing and we’re not trying to be controversial.”
The song, however, has been racing up the charts. It’s got a simple yet catchy skeleton and the lyrics are super tongue-in-cheek. We’re not mad about OMI’s verse in the song but we love the fact that The Vamps are pushing boundaries within pop music. This is definitely going on our playlist.
