Tyla is officially the hottest act out of Mzansi right now. The South African pop star is making major waves with her new single ‘Water’. In fact, the song has broken into the Top 40 in the UK sitting at number 27 this week.
Additionally, ‘Water’ is trending on TikTok and the sound has reached over one billion views over the past few weeks. This is thanks to the popular #WaterChallenge which was started by Tyla herself. The trend has over 150 million views on TikTok with tons of people trying to re-create it including famous faces like Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Megan Thee Stallion.
The routine is inspired by a particular style of dance called Bacardi, which originates in South Africa and comes from a sub-genre of music named amapiano.
Tyla also shared that the song has achieved over 20 millions streams on Spotify, making her the most streamed South African artist currently breaking Kabza De Small and Elaine’s records with five million monthly listeners.
Additionally, ‘Water’ has reached a peak of number two on the official Billboard Afrobeats Charts, is charting in 65 countries around the world, including the Top 10 in the UK, and had debuted at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Bubbling Under chart.
This is just the beginning for Tyla’s world domination with ‘Water’ and the song is expected to make even more major waves around the world in the weeks to come.
