The local Live Events & Entertainment Industry will tonight, Wednesday, 05 August, light up iconic parts of South Africa, in an effort to gain the attention of the Minister of Arts, Culture, Sports & Recreation, Nkosinathi Mthethwa.
This, as the industry has not been able to operate the for the past 5 months – this due to the national disaster act not allowing the gathering of more than 50 people and there being no guidelines set or discussed by government for movie cinemas and theatres who have been given the green light to operate once again. Iconic spots that will be lit in red tonight from 6PM – 8PM include:
Cape Town – Table Mountain, Greenpoint Stadium, Cape Town City Hall, Cape Town Castle, Civic Centre, The Big Wheel (V&A Waterfront) and Clock Tower at Nelson Mandela Gateway.
Johannesburg – Northcliff Water Tower, Montecasino, Kyalami, City Hall in Umhlanga and Hot FM Radio Station.
Durban – Durban City Hall, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Old Prison Wall at ICC, Durban Jewish Club and Durban Libraries.
The #LightSARed movement will light a total of 363 areas around the country. Members of the public can join in the movement by taking a picture of the lit areas and share on social media using the hashtag #LightSARed. They can also light up their home or room red and share on socials.
Follow the movement on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/LightSAred/ and watch out for the live stream on 05 August from 10:00 to 20:00.
