Feeling a bit anxious is a normal part of life. We lead stressful lifestyles in general and at the moment, our anxiety is through the roof.
Anxiety is not a bad thing to have in small doses. It makes us aware of dangers, motivates us to stay organised and helps us calculate risks. With that being said, anxiety can become a daily struggle if it is not managed correctly. It is time to act before it snowballs into a problem that you can no longer manage.
Take control of your anxiety by trying out some of these natural remedies to combat anxiety.
Stay active
Regular exercise is not only good for you physically but also mentally. It helps to ease anxiety for some people. It is not a short-term fix as you may experience anxiety relief for hours after working out.
Drink less caffeine
Caffeine can give you a buzz and in some instances it is nice to know that you will stay awake during your early morning meetings. Research has shown that caffeine may cause or worsen anxiety disorders. Some people might find that reducing your caffeine intake will significantly improve your anxiety symptoms.
Get some sleep
Insomnia is a common symptom of anxiety. Try getting your body into a healthy sleeping pattern.
- No phones or TV, 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep
- No caffeine before bed
- Write down your worries before going to bed. This will get them out your mind
- Keep your room dark and cool
- Go to sleep at the same time each night
Meditate
My favourite thing to do to help me with my anxiety is meditate. This might seem hard in the beginning but there are a lot of guided meditations online. Soon you will learn how to empty your mind and focus on your breathing.
Try aromatherapy
Aromatherapy has been around for a very long time. It uses essential oils to help promote health and well-being. You can add some oils to your bath, a diffuser or simply place a few drops onto your pillow at night. The oils below are designed to help quieten your mind:
- Lavender oil
- Bergamot
- Clary sage
- Ylang ylang
Find a hobby
Find something that you are interested in and devote time during the week to do it. Art is a great way for you to escape life for awhile. Play some golf or got lost in a latest novel. You do not need to spend a lot of time doing these things but it is important that you give yourself time to do something that you enjoy.
