Shortstraw’s latest album ‘Youthless’ is one of their strongest yet. They did a phenomenal job on the album which spawned hit singles such as ‘OMG’, ‘Say Anything’ and ‘High School’. Now, 18 months after the band released their recent album, Shortstraw have announced that they will be releasing their new album ‘Those Meddling Kids’. However, they won’t be releasing it the traditional way.
The band revealed that instead of a conventional release where one gets everything upfront, starting from September, they have boldly chosen to rather release one song on the first Friday of every month until the end of the collection. By doing so, they hope that each track off the album gets it’s time in the spotlight. “We wanted to put a strong focus on our songs this time,” the band said. “We’re writing and recording as we go, so we can release them as soon as we can and not wait for a whole album to be completed before people get a chance to hear them!”
Since the band believe that each and every song on this album forms part of their best work to date, the band will be unveiling a unique single artwork and music video for each track on the album. The artwork will be designed by a different visual artist or designer, while the music videos will directed by the most passionate pitch. So, the band appeals to anyone who would like to get involved in the project to get in contact with them. Everyone involved in this collection of music, artwork, and film, will form part of the collective ‘Those Meddling Kids’. Instead of just a small album liner note, the band will take every opportunity to profile, advertise, and celebrate all those involved.
“There are incredibly talented people out there, both locally and overseas that we have been lucky enough to work with, and want to work with. We didn’t just want it to be another job for them, we wanted them to be a part of something! We’re excited about formalising a collective with them for the sole reason being that we can then share it with everyone who’s interested. Hopefully people like what they see and want to work with them too.”
While the band has revealed that the project isn’t completed as of yet, they can officially reveal that the first track from the new album will be released on Friday, 2 September. The exciting part is that the band will be cooking up some new material while the tracks are being rolled out.
