As if Monday wasn’t a shitty day as it is, South African band Zebra & Giraffe have officially called it quits today. The band has released huge singles during their 8-year run such as ‘The Knife’, ‘The End of the Road’, ‘It’s All The Same’, ‘The Inside’, ‘Arm Yourself’ and many more and became one of the biggest rock acts in South Africa. However, the band announced today that they’re closing the Zebra & Giraffe chapter for good.
“It’s with sadness in our hearts that we announce the end of Zebra & Giraffe. Kirstenbosch Gardens (20th March 2016) will be our last show for the foreseeable future,” the band said on their Facebook page. “We’d like to thank each and every one of our fans over the years – your support and love for our music has made this amazing journey possible. To our families and friends – thank you for your love and support, for believing in us, and for putting up with all the craziness! To the people who’ve played an integral part in making this band what it is, we thank you for all your hard work and loyalty.”
The band adds that “Over the past 8 years we’ve achieved so many things that we’re proud of; we’ve poured our hearts and souls into every recording and every show, but the time has come for each of us to move onto different things.”
Although the band gave no clear reason as to why the band has decided to split, the tone in the message is clearly one of a heartbroken group of men. The band has performed at major festivals and venues all around the country and while we’re heartbroken about the split, we’re holding on to the words “forseeable future” in the hope that one day, the band will return.
As a parting gift to their fans, Zebra & Giraffe uploaded ‘Redefine’ the fifth single off their ‘Slow Motion EP’ as a free download onto Soundcloud.
RIP, Zebra & Giraffe…
