Review: Tove Lo – Queen Of The Clouds

Tove Lo
Queen of the Clouds (Universal Music)

Breakdown: Swedish star has really burst onto the scene over the past year and her debut album ‘Queen of the Clouds’ is officially available in South Africa on CD, vinyl and digitally. The record was preceded by the hits ‘Habits (Stay High)’ and the incredible ‘Talking Body’. She even landed up on Alesso’s smash hit ‘Heroes’.

How Many Good Tracks: 12 of the 17.

What I Liked: Tove Lo is a breath of fresh air and a true artist. Not only does she carefully craft each track but her songwriting is brilliant. The tracks are deep, funny and, most importantly, hits. Tove Lo separated the album into three parts – namely The The Sex, The Love and The Pain and although I hate interludes, I love how she carefully crafted the track list as well. Lyrically, this is one of the best albums of the last six months. Tove is brilliant at translating an idea into a song and each and every song is proof of that. The album is highly relatable and her voice is magic. Tove Lo is fresh, unique and easily stands out from the heavily populated female pop scene.

What I Didn’t Like: As I mentioned above, the interludes just don’t work for me. Other than that, the album has about 3 weak songs (interlude excluded) and that’s pretty damn amazing for a debut record.

Best Track: Talking Body. Duh.

Rating: 4/5
