Review: This Is Where I Leave You

Sitting Shivah has never been more crazy!

Starring: Jason Bateman and Tina Fey

Plot: When Judd Foxman’s father dies, the family comes together for the first time in years. However, Judd’s wife, who’s having an affair, is noticeably absent. Judd, grieving for his father and his marriage, joins his dysfunctional non-practicing Jewish family as they fulfil his father’s final wish and sit Shivah together, spending seven days and nights under the same roof during which time secrets are revealed, long-time grudges come to the forefront and old passions are rekindled.

Remarks: With a stellar cast such as Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Connie Britton, Dax Shepard and Rose Byrne, this film couldn’t go wrong. The cast mixed together well and this landed up being one of the funniest comedies I’ve seen in a while (Sex Tape and Tammy were horrible!). The movie’s storyline wasn’t strong at all, hence a movie like this would need to rely on its cast. The script, however, was brilliantly written and shows us that like us, every family has their crazy scenarios. There are plenty laughs, awkward moments and a hilarious twist at the end regarding Jane’s character. A fun, light film you won’t be disappointed watching.

Rating: 3/5
