The Avengers are back – but has their power fizzled?
Starring: Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jnr.
Plot: When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure.
Remarks: It’s easily one of the biggest films to release this year and the world is waiting in anticipation for The Avengers: Age of Ultron to release – and South Africa gets to see it a whole week before it premieres in the United States! Last night, the film premiered in Johannesburg in the biggest event I have ever seen for a film in South Africa. Movies@ Montecasino was booked out for the spectacular and the crowds came out in full force.
Onto the film. The is The Avengers so obviously it’s going to be action packed, however, if I’m honest, the film didn’t do it for me. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible film. The special effects are freaking amazing and one can’t take that from the film. That being said, the storyline was rather weak and I found that the director focused on irrelevant material a lot in order to lengthen the film. I also found the locations in the film quite confusing. One second The Avengers are in the US, then Korea, then South Africa. Oh, the South African scenes were EPIC! It was so cool seeing Ponte tower in the film and I remember the crew being here to shoot the film back in Feb last year! Also, I don’t know if it’s just me but the actors lacked the chemistry they had in the previous film. Sure, there are a few laughs here and there but there are many awkward moments. I don’t want to spoil the film for you. Yes, it’s nothing compared to the first one but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. Just go in with lower expectations.
Rating: 2.5/5
