Review: Star Trek Beyond

The Star Trek world ignites with another fantastic sequel

Starring: Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto

Plot: Halfway through their 5 year mission, the USS Enterprise enters uncharted territory on the fringes of Federation Space, where it’s almost destroyed by a powerful, relentless and unknown alien threat. Now stranded on a remote planet with no hope of rescue, Kirk must work to reunite his crew and defend themselves in a bid to get home alive.

Remarks: I’m such a huge fan of the Star Trek reboot. The new film is the third in the new franchise and is just as awesome as the previous two. These films do the franchise justice and are jam-packed with action and adventure. This time, the storyline is really captivating – and scary – as the famous USS Enterprise is almost destroyed. This made the film a bit more believable as it shows the cracks in both the ship and the characters on board it. Kirk and Spock, naturally, are the standouts in the film. The two are such likeable characters and you watch them grow throughout the film. However, keep an eyeout on Algerian actress Sofia Boutella who plays Jaylah. The antagonists are dangerous and scary and there were moments where I wondered if good can really triumph this time around. Idris Alba played Krall, the leader of the foreign world, and rocked that role. I really enjoyed everything he brought to the film. Then, as expected, the make up and the special effects are fantastic. The franchise is still going strong so it’s no surprise that a fourth film has already been confirmed. If there’s a film you watch this weekend, make sure it’s Star Trek Beyond.

Rating: 4/5

Star Trek Beyond releases on August 26th 2016.
