Review: Nicki Minaj – The Pinkprint (Deluxe)

Nicki Minaj
The Pinkprint (Deluxe) (Universal Music)

Breakdown: Finally! The Queen of Rap, Nicki Minaj, is back with her third studio album titled The Pinkprint. The album has already spawned hits such as Pills N Potions, Bed Of Lies (Feat. Skylar Grey), Anaconda and Only (Feat. Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown). The album sees the rapper move to a solely hip-hop record, unlike her previous two albums which were mixed with hip-hop and pop elements.

How Many Good Tracks: 18 of the 21.

What I Liked: First of all, the deluxe edition of the record (white background) will be sold around South Africa and it features 21 tracks so you know you are getting your money’s worth with this album. Secondly, Nicki’s place has always been with hip-hop and the proof is in the pudding with this album. Nicki delivers some of her best material to date on this record and is a stronger lyricist and vocalist than ever before. Nicki also pours her heart out on this record and we learn more about her than ever before. The tracks are catchy and there are plenty tracks worth releasing as a single which is really rare in an album these days. The album also sees a number of guests including Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Drake, Skylar Grey, Jeremih and more.

What I Didn’t Like: While I am in love with this album already, I do feel that a lot of her pop fan base will be disappointed with the fact that she doesn’t cater to them with this record. That being said, I do think her gamble paid off in the long run.

Best Track: I LOVE Trini Dem Girls (Feat. Lunchmoney Lewis), Anaconda and Feeling Myself (Feat. Beyonce) is a winner.

Rating: 4.5/5
