There are just under two months to go until the inaugural Hey Neighbour festival. The team at Glen21 have already announced headliners Kendrick Lamar, Swedish House Mafia, Khalid, H.E.R and The Chainsmokers will be performing live and as the countdown continues, the promoter has revealed that Nigerian pop star Rema will be headlining the second day of festival.
Rema will perform alongside Kendrick Lamar on the second day of the festival alongside just-announced international act Nothing But Thieves and a local line-up including Scorpion Kings, Shimza, Blxckie, Jack Parrow, Zakes Bantwini, Shekhinah, Anatii and Focalistic.
The Nigerian’s global smash hit ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez recently joined Spotify’s Billions Club – a remarkable milestone for the Afrobeats star.
“It’s a blessing. It’s not just a big win for me, my team and family, it’s also a big one for the culture. I feel really happy and I’m really proud of the fans as well for going back to the song and putting people on the song. Shout out to the DJs and everyone who made this possible,” said Rema when he heard the news from Spotify.
‘Calm Down’ quickly became a worldwide favorite because of its catchy mix of Afrobeats rhythms, blended with afro-fusion melodies, Rema’s unique and soulful singing and the unexpected addition of Selena Gomez on an Afrobeats song. The song production was made with a combination of modern and traditional elements, showing how African music is changing and growing.
Also joining the festival’s impressive line-up includes legendary South African acts Mafikizolo, Prime Circle, Zakes Bantwini, Black Motion, Desmond and the Tutus, Mörda, Kelvin Momo, DJ Zinhle, Sho Madjozi, Elaine and Jamie-Lee Sexton.
