The song has become a phenomenon thanks to its involvement in the major mannequin challenge craze happening all around the world. In fact, the song has become so big that it knocked The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s smash hit ‘Closer’ off the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts after 12 weeks at number one. The song is the third single off the duo’s latest record ‘SremmLife 2’.
The song has all the necessary elements needed to make it a hit. Rae sremmurd stand out in a saturated American hip-hop market. Not only are their voices different to any other rapper at the moment, but the duo also take a different approach to their music and add more melodic elements than their competitors. The song is fresh, catchy and has a banging beat thanks to producer Mike WiLL Made-It. Rae Sremmurd have also tapped Gucci Mane for a verse on the track and while he kills his verse, he does seem a little out of place amongst the younger rap generation. The duo have even dropped an epic video for the track which, naturally, has Beatles references like the Abbey Road cover and the rooftop concert.
Producer Mike WiLL Made-It is incredibly proud of the success the song has had. “To be able to put Gucci Mane, the person that gave me my first opportunity in music, and Rae Sremmurd, the debut artist from my [imprint, Eardrummer; Rae Sremmurd’s name is a reversal of “drummer’s ear”], on what’s both [Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane’s] biggest record ever, and the first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 for both, is something I could have never imagined or dreamed of. I couldn’t have asked for a better moment to be a part of.” He adds that “‘Black Beatles’ is the best song I have produced so far in my career. The way it came together couldn’t have been more natural, and it’s amazing to see people feel the same way, and gravitate to the record so naturally. For ‘Black Beatles’ to be so true to us and our sound – we weren’t chasing a sound – it solidifies that the world is ready for us and what we have to come.”
