Opposite The Other To Open For The Lumineers

The Lumineers are making their highly-anticipated return to South African soil next month as they bring their Cleopatra World Tour to both Cape Town on the 26th of April and Johannesburg on the 28th of April. In support of the tour, 5FM ran a six-week-long search to find the opening act for the band which. After being shortlisted by the public, The Lumineers would listen to the top four groups and pick their winners – and Opposite The Other came out tops.

After the public vote, the four bands shortlisted were The Shabs, Opposite the Other, Early Hours and Sean Koch Trio. However, this morning on Fresh@5, the bands’ Jeremiah Fraites announced their choice with Cape Town-based band Opposite the Other taking top spot as opening act for both Johannesburg and Cape Town. The Lumineers have also added another Cape Town band, Early Hours to the Cape Town leg, saying they would open the day.

Opposite The Other burst onto the scene last year with their smash hit single ‘Stutter Love’ as well as their Coke Studio collaboration with Jimmy Nevis ‘Control-Alt-Delete’. The group have been working on some new music which they plan on playing at the shows.

“Thank you all for being on this journey with us and to the many of you who voted for us,” the group said in a Facebook post. “It was your votes that got us shortlisted to be chosen by The Lumineers and it means so much to the three of us to be backed by so many caring and supportive people. Thank you for letting us share our music and experiences with you all!”

Tickets for the shows are still available at Computicket. Get yours today before they’re sold out.
