He’s dominated the local R&B market for years and we’re ecstatic to announce that Chad Saaiman is back with his brand new album ‘Cinema’. The album has already seen hit singles in the form of ‘Mi Amor’ and it shows a more mature Chad Saaiman. I sat down with the star and discussed the new album, his backstage rituals and his plans for 2015.
You’ve just released your new album ‘Cinema’, What was the process like recording the album?
The process recording Cinema was a real journey, recorded with several producers between Joburg and Cape Town. I loved every moment of it.
You took your time on this album. Was there a special reasoning behind this?
I just wanted to be happy with every record. This is the most hands-on I’ve ever been with an album and with independence comes responsibility. I’m proud of the work and really glad it’s finally out!
Singles ‘Mi Amor’ and ‘Loving You Is Easy’ see a different side to you. What did you want listeners to get out of your new sound?
A big part of the “sounds” I create lie in my choice of producers I choose to work with. The album sits nicely between R&B and Pop and I just want listeners to find their favourite songs and really get into the stories behind them. That’s what it’s about for me, stories.
What are the challenges with releasing a new album?
I think every artist has a different experience depending on the kind of deal they have. Cinema was created with the support of management but without a record label – so, in areas, there were challenges in terms of resources and infrastructure. However, at the end it’s all worth so much more.
What can listeners expect on ‘Cinema’?
They can expect an array of 3-4 minute audio movies, telling stories of love and life. Songs about the good and the bad times.
What music are you listening to right now?
I’m listening to Banks, Dirty Loops and Gorgon City.
What is the most exciting and most difficult part of our local entertainment industry?
The most exciting part is seeing your work get out there and watching the joy it brings to people. That and the opportunities that come your way on the basis of your music and brand. The most difficult part I’d say is getting everyone to see your exact vision. Art is a special thing.
Do you have any rituals you must do before going up on stage?
Yes. I say a prayer and then kiss the tattoo that’s on my left forearm. It’s a tattoo of my daughter’s name.
What can we expect from you over the next few months?
I dropped a music video for Loving You is Easy as well as the All On The Wall Remix, and I’ll be touring all over the country. Stay tuned to my social media for the dates!
