Noma Khumalo: Our New Idols South Africa Champion

After battling it out in front of judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Msengana, Gareth Cliff and Somizi for months, Noma Khumalo won the majority of the public vote which saw her become the first female winner of Idols South Africa in seven seasons! Over 83 million votes were cast this season and ultimately, Noma beat out runner-up Thami Shobede during the show’s live finale at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena.

Noma takes home a prize worth over R1,2 million which includes an exclusive record contract with the Gallo Record Company which will see the star release a record both physically and digitally. Last week the Noma and Thami dropped her debut singles. Noma released her beautiful single ‘Want It To Feel Like It Did With You’ and the track’s official music video premiered during the exciting finale.

As expected, the season 12 finale was a spectacle! Not only is it always exciting when a winner is crowned, but the show was jam-packed with electrifying performances. This season’s top 10 reunited on stage with an awesome rendition of Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s smash hit ‘This Is What You Came For’ while AKA debuted not one but two brand new singles – all while standing on a grand piano, of course.

However, the fire didn’t end there. The top two were joined by top local musicians as they performed mind-blowing duets. Noma took to the stage with the incredible Nathi as they performed ‘Noma Kanjani’ while Thami sang ‘Sobabili’ with the incredible Kelly Khumalo.

Last year’s winner Karabo also returned to the Idols SA stage while judge Unathi gave a powerful performance with her kwaito collaborator Zola. The top 10 returned to the stage as they gave their own spin to Beyonce’s hit single ‘Flawless’ as well. However, a Idols finale isn’t the same without an appearance from the Wooden Mic winner and this year, Mbishop Shezi took home the title.

The 22-year-old winner will start working on her album immediately and will aim to have the record out as soon as possible. In the meantime, however, Noma will be hard at work promoting her new single while soaking in this incredible Idols win.

As the show officially comes to an end, fans will be happy to hear that the show has already been renewed for a 13th season. While it’s only scheduled to premiere mid-2017, auditions for the show will take place in January. Cape Town will be first on the 14th of January at the Grand West Casino while Pretoria will be next at The State Theatre on the 21st of January followed by Durban on the28th of January at The Playhouse before ending off auditions in Johannesburg at Carnival City on the 4th of February.

I’m so excited for Noma! We think she is such a deserving winner and I can’t wait to hear what she comes up with on her debut album! It’s been an awesome season of Idols South Africa and we can’t wait for the show’s new season next year!
