Nightbirde made a massive impact as a contestant on America’s Got Talent this season with her powerful original song ‘It’s OK’. Simon Cowell awarded her a golden buzzer and the emotional audition catapulted the song to No. 1 on iTunes and No. 2 on YouTube’s trending list. Her performance was one of the most moving moments in the history of a show known for moving moments.
Nightbirde was diagnosed with cancer before performing on AGT. A few months after the audition, the singer, whose real name is Jane Marczewski, withdrew from the competition claiming a worsening of her health and the need to focus on her battle with cancer.
Inspired by her audition and message, the Mzansi Youth Choir have covered the song and injected their own flavour into it.
“Inspired by her incredible determination and positive view on life, we have made this cover, dedicating it to Nightbirde, to all those who have and are still battling cancer, and to those who have lost their loved ones to the fight of cancer,” said Sidumo Nyamezele, music director of the Mzansi Youth Choir.
He adds “Nightbirde has become a symbol of courage, poise, beauty, and inspiration. In times of adversity, her voice was the voice that people across the world, including us, needed to hear. We send prayers and much love to Nightbirde. You have taught us all to be brave.”
