Mondrey Commands Attention With Toe-Tapping New Single ‘Weerloos’

There’s a fresh new face on the Afrikaans pop scene. Newcomer Mondrey has just released his debut single ‘Weerloos’ and it’s a fun, relatable track that is bound to get toes around the country tapping.

The energetic pop track sees the young star showcase his impressive vocal ability and songwriting skills as he comfortably finds his space in the local pop industry.

Lyrically, the song is an archetypal take on a teenage love story and told in a way that is relatable to the youth of today, in a catchy way, of course. “[The song] is a love story with a twist. It’s about a guy who tries to hook up with a beautiful girl at a poolside party. He tries to make a move, but she plays hard to get. He tries to win her over but doesn’t succeed – something so many of us can relate to,” Mondrey tells us.

He adds “Later on the night, he confronts her and tells her that he has been fighting his emotions and pours his heart out. Before he walks away, she confesses her secret love for him and they both end up together. I basically had this visual love story in my head and with the help of my writing partner, we brought the story to life on the track.”

The song’s music video mirrors the story in the track and brings us all of those summer feels. “I shot the video with the legendary gents from Fokid Media. Dan and Jannis, the producers of the video, really helped me brought my vision to life. We shot it at the Bass Lake Country Lodge and I am so happy with the way it turned out.”
