It feels like just the other day when one of the biggest duos to come out of Mzansi, Mafikizolo, took over the South African Music Awards back in 2014 when they took home an incredible 8 awards after they dropped their Reunited album. Now, the duo is back and they’ve teamed up with Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platinumz and Maporsia for new single Colors Of Africa.
It’s been close to three years since we’ve heard new music from Mafikizolo. The track, however, doesn’t pack the punch we thought it would have. Sure, it’s a good track but the excessive use of auto-tune is a major turn-off and while the chorus is catchy, it isn’t something that stands out from the crowd. That being said, Mafikizolo brought the heat with the production. They’ve always made incredible house music and the beats and instrumentals are fire.
I also loved that they made another track with Diamond Platinumz. He is an incredible talent and shines on the record. Although the song isn’t as strong as I was expecting, I’m still so excited about the return of Mafikizolo and I’m excited to see what they have up their sleeve with their upcoming album which drops later this year. Welcome back, Mafikizolo! We’ve missed you.
