When Shawn Mendes first appeared on the scene, Justin Bieber was asked in an interview about his fellow Canadian’s rise to fame and famously answered ‘Who’s Shawn Mendes?’. Now, a few years down the line, the Canadian pop sensations are two of the biggest acts in pop music today and they’re joining forces to release their highly-anticipated collaboration ‘Monster’ this week.

Rumors about a possible collaboration began in July 2020 after Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun posted videos of Bieber, Mendes and Tori Kelly jamming around a piano. In an interview with Roman Kemp last month, Shawn was asked if he had turned down a chance to collaborate with Justin. “Is this you trying to get me to confirm that I have a collaboration with Justin Bieber? I didn’t last month.” He said that it would be “insane” for him to turn it down, considering Bieber has been one of his favorite artists since he was nine years old. “I cannot confirm or deny,” he continued, but added that their relationship in the last six months has grew closer.
Now, the cat is out the bag and the duo will be releasing their new single ‘Monster’ worldwide this week. The track serves as the second single off Shawn’s upcoming studio album ‘Wonder’ which drops this Friday. Mendes releases the lead single and title track last month.
In a letter announcing the album, Mendes wrote: “It really feels like a piece of me has been written down on paper and recorded into song. I tried to be as real and as honest as I’ve ever been. t’s a world and a journey and a dream and an album I’ve been wanting to make for a really long time.”
Hands up if you’re excited for the new collaboration.
