Local pop star Jordan Dysel is back with brand-new music – and he’s just dropped a major earworm you’re not going to be able to get out of your head. The star has premiered ‘Santorini’ – a summery dance anthem that will make you miss the sun, beach and holiday spirit.
The song is self-written by Dysel and produced by Hendrik Joerges (Armand Joubert, Gabi du Plessis, SaxbyTwins) and mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer, Fermin Suero Jr (Anitta, Dua Lipa, Will Linley).
The track serves as the next single off the up-and-coming artist’s SAMRO-sponsored EP. The song is a notable step forward in Jordan’s sound, combining meticulously arranged layers of drums and a driving bassline with an alluring vocal performance by Dysel. With its seductively sung verses which suggest a desire for adventure and climax towards an anthemic chorus with an infectious hook and a proclamation of love, ‘Santorini’ is everything that describes glossy pop music at an international level.
When asked about how the song came about, Dysel explains that the concept for ‘Santorini’ came about in early 2021 and writing continued intermittently throughout the remainder of the year and into 2022 when Jordan finalised the vocal recording remotely.
“Tracking vocals from home gave me full control as well as the freedom to polish the recording without feeling restricted by studio time. This song is a reflection of the style of music I currently enjoy listening to and hints at the indescribable feeling I get when hearing my own songs on the radio,” explains Dysel.
In a fitting dedication, ‘Santorini’ was first performed live at Jordan’s sister’s wedding in Mauritius in 2022. “This record is the perfect metaphor for the coming together of two people, reflecting the progression and pinnacle point in a relationship. For me personally, the song represents my ‘engagement’ to music.”
