Here’s Who Will Be Roasting Khanyi Mbau In New Special

The Comedy Central Roast Of Khanyi Mbau is right around the corner, and the channel has confirmed the panelists who will be giving the star a grilling in the new special.

Socialite, radio host and DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Award winner SelBeyonce Mkhize, powerhouse actress-and-comedian Celeste Ntuli and award-winning investigative journalist Devi Sankaree Govender, are all confirmed to take part in the much anticipated Roast spectacle. They join already announced Roastmaster Mpho Popps in building the anticipation for the live event on 21 July at the Teatro in Montecasino, for which only a few tickets remain on sale.

With two heavyweight comedian talents now confirmed for the Roast, there is no doubt it will be side-splittingly funny, and there is no doubt that Ntuli will not let Popps take all the shine. “Being on the Roast in the age of cancel culture feels like freedom for comedy again,” said Ntuli. “This Roast will be burning a fire just like a mbawula, or should I say like Mbau!”

SelBeyonce Mkhize confessed that anxiety and excitement both inform her feelings in the run up to the roast, but she is nonetheless ready to get stuck in: “You never know what the others might bring up, but let’s take it to the streets and bring out the big guns. Someone is about to be roasted to ashes.”

Much like Mbau, who has expressed relishing the opportunity to be unapologetically herself during the Roast, the female panel members seem unfazed about being in the firing line. “I’ve always been a fan of the Comedy Central Roasts and I’m looking forward to being part of all the spicy action,” noted Sankaree Govender.

Joining #TheRoastofKhanyiare controversial podcaster and radio personality Sol Phenduka, on-screen national treasure Sello Maake Ka Ncube and Hip Hop’s baddest baddie Nadia Nakai. In a game-changing addition, comedy icon John Vlismas has agreed to step out of retirement to add even more fuel to the fire.

Commenting on his surprise return to comedy, John Vlismas noted this as a chance that was just too good to pass up: “Khanyi is a friend and colleague. She’s also an aging socialite who won’t be able to stand under lights for much longer. I had to get back in the ring for this. Are you kidding me, the first woman of colour on earth to be roasted? I would have come back from the grave to take her down.”

Vlismas is not the only one ready to pile on. Nadia Nakai notes, “Khanyi is my girl but I think it’s time she realises that only one of us is a young A-lister… and it isn’t her!” On the more seasoned side of life, Sello Maake kaNcube is not afraid to bring a different view to the panel. “I have no idea what I have set myself up for by agreeing to do this, but these youngsters better know that I have been around the block many times. Let them bring it on,” said the acting legend.

Audiences may be waiting to see what Sol Phenduka does when he steps out from behind MacG’s shadow, and the controversial podcaster is determined to deliver. “I am no stranger to shots being fired,” noted Phenduka. “As for eleven of us being ready to fire them at once? I was born for this.”

These final panellists join a dais of fellow powerhouses: Comedy royalty and actress Celeste Ntuli, seasoned broadcast personality and entrepreneur Tbo Touch and Cape Town’s favourite rapper YoungstaCPT. Roastmaster Mpho Popps is going to have his hands full!
