Local electronic act Goodluck have, like most of us, felt the devastating effect Covid-19 has had. Despite what lockdown has had on their mental health, the group hasn’t been able to share their music live for months and have been cooped up in the studio working on new material. However, from lockdown comes an exciting new project that is unlike anything the group has released before.
Goodluck is set to release their debut acoustic album ‘Goodluck Unplugged: Volume One’ in the next few weeks and are set to release the project’s debut single ‘Back in the Day We Used to Run’ this Friday.
“One day a few months ago I was feeling a bit sad (understandable I guess after what the world has been through) and I sat down at the piano and started to play one of our songs acoustically. It was a strange feeling because I felt so exposed and vulnerable… Just me and a piano. So different. That was the seed that sparked a journey that we have taken as band over the last few months,” the group’s Jules Harding tells us.
“Unplugged, stripped-down, nothing to hide behind – we picked a few of our songs to re-imagine completely. We handpicked some of South Africa’s best musicians (who also happen to be some of the world’s most wonderful humans) to work on this record! It was our dream team and as we settled down in studio and began crafting these songs, something that stood out to me was the respect each musician had for one another and how the music always got put first – it was really humbling. We have made something truly magical here.”
‘Back in the Day We Used to Run’ is now available to pre-save/pre-add.
