GoodLuck And Choreographer Rudi Smit Unite For Striking ‘Bird Of Paradise’ Music Video

GoodLuck has cemented themselves as one of the biggest dance acts in the country. However, their latest release, ‘Bird Of Paradise’, shows us that despite being at the tip of their game, they’re still pushing their creative boundaries with every release. The single has already become a massive hit around the country and now, the trio has released a beautiful music video for the track – and teamed up with choreographer Rudi Smit to create a spectacular visual masterpiece.

The music video is beautifully cinematic, with dramatic settings and stunning art direction, which coupled with the world-class choreography, makes this is a production that is leading the charge in showing the world what South Africa is capable of.

The group’s Jules Harding says “Working with Rudi Smit was absolutely mind-blowing. His level of talent, passion and attention to detail has inspired me greatly, and considering how hard we push ourselves, that is really saying something! His dance crew trusts and respects him to the highest level and you can feel that immediately when you walk into the rehearsal room – they move as though they are one person, it’s astonishing!”

Rudi adds “This was such a great collaboration! To have GoodLuck trust me to not only choreograph, but direct too has been a personal highlight of my career. I am really passionate about directing and to be given the opportunity to have creative control on that level and on a scale like this was a super memorable, first-time experience for me. On top of that, I got to do all of this with my dance company, Untimitive, which always makes the process even more incredible! I am so grateful to Jules and Ben, and I am excited to see how everyone responds to what we’ve created!”

Bird of Paradise is the anthem that the world needs to hear at the moment – “I wrote the song about a person who breaks free from an abusive relationship and lets their inner strength take control of their destiny. So many people are in toxic situations, they’re trapped by the circumstance, but also ultimately their choice. And this song is about breaking that trap and popping the balloon of self doubt! Essentially becoming a Bird of Paradise is the metaphor, and as they find the courage to fall in love with their colours, the boundlessness… Themself. They find the real truth, that inside they had the strength they needed all along.” says Jules Harding.

The world is experiencing a revolution of accountability, the victims are no longer silenced by apathy and toxic masculinity… They are championing their survival and this song celebrates that strength, that conviction, a kind of hope that can only come from deep within.

‘I think everyone can take strength from this song’, says Ben Peters – ‘Every time I hear it, it grabs me by the scruff of the neck and takes me on an emotional rollercoaster – it’s just something I’ve never quite heard before, and that – that is incredibly exciting…’

Working with Grammy-Nominated Producer Dimitri Tikovoï, who carved his career producing records for artists like Placebo, Charli XCX, Becky Hill and Blondie, the song was born at Buspace Studios in West London. The band connected with the accomplished French producer and wrote the song together while on tour in London. The song was also given the nod by Grammy Award Winning Mastering Engineer John Greenham, who finished off the single at his studio in LA. Greenham has worked with some of the biggest artists in the world, more recently renowned for his work with Billie Eilish.
