Besides being one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Super Bowl also features a major musical moment. The Halftime show is something every musician wants to add to their list of accolades and this year was all about one of the biggest hip-hop producers in history – Dr. Dre.
The Grammy-winning rapper and producer set the stage alight alongside Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar for a nearly 14-minute spectacle that included some of the biggest rap hits of the last 30 years
Fans were also treated to a performance of ‘In Da Club’ by 50 Cent who hadn’t been announced previously. Dr. Dre famously co-produced the hit and catapulted the rapper to superstardom with the track.
Dre and Snoop opened the production with “The Next Episode,” before Snoop went on to perform “California Love,” 2Pac’s mid-’90s Dre-produced smash. 50 Cent then surprised audiences hanging upside down before descending into a mock nightclub.
Mary J Blige was next to perform and sang her hits ‘Family Affair’ and ‘No More Drama’. Lamar was next and performed “good kid” and “Alright” before rap legend Eminem took to the stage. The rapper performed a few lines from “Forgot About Dre” before moving into “Lose Yourself” – the Oscar-winning track widely regarded as hit biggest hit. Eminem finished his set by taking a knee, nodding to Colin Kaepernick’s much-discussed NFL protest from a few years ago.
To end the spectacular, all six performers came together to perform “Still D.R.E” – a nod to one of the greatest producers in musical history.
