He made a splash after appearing on The Voice UK where he was mentored by Black Eyed Peas front-man Will.I.Am and after dropping his debut single ‘Bang Like A Drum’ with Swarmz back in 2018, 19-year-old Zimbabwean-born Donel went off to hone his craft. Now, he’s inked a global deal with Warner Music and he’s just dropped his debut EP ‘African Boy Pt. 1’.
After fine-tuning his sound over the past few years, the 19-year-old former The Voice UK favourite is reintroducing himself with a unique blend of airy Afrobeats production and sticky pop hooks.
On the highly-anticipated three-track EP, Donel’s warm vocals transport you to a block party in summer, dancing with friends and family. The vibrant string-plucks and the positivity of lead single ‘Motion’ offer a jolt of energy that’ll brighten your day while on the suave ‘Savage,’ his playboy persona takes over.
In the video for ‘Motion,’ Donel moves through an average day in his hometown with a smile on his face and a skip in his step, literally dancing his troubles away. The young crooner displays a swag and sensibility that’s utterly captivating and extremely entertaining.
Donel sounds more confident than ever on the new collection of tracks. It’s no wonder Prince Harry (among Donel’s many early followers) dubbed Donel a “star of the future” way back in 2018.
