Katy Perry has only just released her brand new studio album ‘Witness’ and has three singles running concurrently (Chained To The Rhythm, Bon Appetit and Swish Swish), but, just when we thought we were about to go into Katy Perry overload – the singer returns to the radio waves alongside Calvin Harris, Big Sean and Pharrell Williams on the producer’s brand new bop ‘Feels’.
The track is the third official single off Calvin’s upcoming album ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1’ after ‘Slide’ and ‘Heatstroke’ and continues the DJ’s departure from mainstream dance music. Calvin seems to be making a point on this album. Not only can he dabble within a variety of genres, but he can produce hit after hit doing so. ‘Feels’ is a slick, funky song which really shows off each artist’s skills. Although the track is overwhelming in the amount of vocalists, there’s this sense of magic about the song. Pharrell does a fantastic job kick-starting the song off and Big Sean seems to impress me with every featured verse. Katy is the most surprising collaborator. Katy and Taylor Swift’s feud is still going strong so it’s rather shocking to see Calvin collaborate with his ex-girlfriend’s nemesis.
However, the song is a decent track. Honestly, it doesn’t live up to the standard we’re used to from Calvin Harris and the lazy songwriting is a little disappointing, however, there’s no doubt that the song is a strong one. Calvin also dropped a beautifully trippy music video of the stars gallivanting on what seems to be a mystical island of sorts. The visuals perfectly represent the song and it’s made us even more excited to hear Calvin’s record when it drops on Friday.
