Ladies, get ready, because the singer Brendan Peyper is embarking on a quest for love. Entries are open until 31 August at kykNET.tv. Don’t miss your chance to snatch this very eligible bachelor.
He has a smile that makes your knees wobble, rippling muscles and the big heart of a boytjie from the Free State. With huge hits like “Stop, wag, bly nog ’n bietjie”, “Trouvrou” and “Jy laat dit maklik lyk”, only one thing is missing in Brendan’s life: that one big love.
Op my eish! could change that because Brendan is the bright star looking for love in the third season of kykNET’s popular reality series.
“I agreed to be part of the programme because I am open to what life has to offer and I don’t want to turn my back on opportunities,” says Brendan. “You never know what life has in store and what is meant to be.”
His ideal woman? “I don’t have a picture in my mind because sometimes the person that you least expect it from, is the one that sweeps off your feet. All I can say, is that I like women with an athletic build who follow a healthy lifestyle,” he says.
Brendan, who celebrates his 27th birthday on 7 August, was born in Bloemfontein and started playing guitar at the age of five. His debut album, Stop, wag, bly nog ’n bietjie, was released in 2015 and a string of hits followed. The music videos for “Jy laat dit maklik lyk” and “Stop, wag, bly nog ’n bietjie” have each been watched more that 6,8 million times on YouTube, and his new hit, “Toer om die vloer”, has racked up more that 3,4 million views in just eight months.
The third season of Op my eish! will be filmed in September and October at some of Brendan’s favourite spots. What is Brendan looking forward to most? “To get to know the women and to see how they react and carry themselves,” he says.
When you are looking for love, you need a patient ear sometimes; someone who knows you well and has your best interests at heart. And when you are looking for love under the spotlight in the public eye, you need more than just good advice. You need a confidant, a good friend, someone who might just be a little older and wiser.
That is exactly what Jo Black is for Brendan Peyper, and that is why the 41-year-old Jo agreed to be 27-year-old Brendan’s wingman for the new season of Op my eish!, kykNET’s popular reality show.
“Jo and Brendan are good friends and because Jo is a married man with children, he will be the ideal person to support Brendan,” says Jaco Spies, director of the series. “Jo is very popular with our viewers and in the end, he was an easy, obvious choice for Brendan’s wingman.
“I believe Jo is going to be an anchor for Brendan. It looks like fun to be the bachelor on a reality show like this, but it’s often hard, and it gets complicated when the bachelor is obliged to send one of the women home. Jo’s charisma and easy-going personality will be an asset to the series.”
“The fact that we are good friends and have the openness of a father-son relationship,” says Jo is why he thinks he will be a good wingman for Brendan. “Because I’m also in the music industry, it is easier for me to help set him on the right path and to keep him grounded. We are very honest with one another, and he can take criticism on the chin from me which also helps.”
For Jo, objective advice is the most important when it comes to a wingman. “You must be trustworthy, loyal and supportive.”
“A wingman’s ultimate goal is to shine a light on the bachelor and to help break the ice during the first meetings with the women,” says Jaco. “He also gets to know them and that puts him in a position to give the bachelor sound advice.”
