When the Black Eyed Peas dropped ‘Where Is The Love’ featuring Justin Timberlake back in 2003, the song not only became one of the biggest songs of the year, but it also broke the band commercially. Now, 13 years later, the band has rereleased the single and has given it a very special twist. Not only does the song have a new sound to it but it also features some incredible vocalists such as Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Schezinger, The Game, Jessie J, Andra May, Tori Kelly, Justin Timberlake, Ty Dolla $ign, Usher, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky and Jaden Smith to name a few.
What is so powerful about the song is its heartfelt lyrics. At the time, shortly after the effects of 9/11, the world was in turmoil and the band felt love was missing. Today, the band feels the same way and has called on some of their friends to re-record the track and donate proceeds to organizations such as Aylan Kurdi, Alton Sterling, Philandro Castle and Dallas police officers. The song still has such a powerful message and I think the way it was recorded this time is so heartfelt and emotional. You can almost hear the desperation in the vocals where the artists are almost begging the world to get along.
The band also released a music video for the track filled with powerful images taken over the past few years alongside clips of the artists featured singing along. Will.I.Am revealed that he believes that the song is so powerful and that he wanted to revive the song for today’s generation. “Millennials are powerful,” said Will. “I don’t think they realize just how powerful they are…I hope this song inspires the millennials to go all out, scream from the tallest mountain, care like your freedom depends on it. Pay attention like that is at risk.” This song is beautiful and has really made an impact on me. Here’s hoping it inspires the world to find love once again.
